PERSONALITY BLURB:
Easy-going. Dedicated. Focused. Pragmatic. Loyal. Sam has never been an easy person to anger, preferring to focus on ways to solve problems than to cause or inflame them. Raised in a single-parent household by her father, Will, she learnt the value of love, compassion and hard work, while remaining grounded. She has a deep respect for her family and for others. Loyal to a fault, she would do anything to protect those she cares about, or those who don’t have anyone to fight for them.

She knows herself; she’s confident, without being cocky. Kind and caring without being insincere. She lives her life for herself, takes pleasure in doing the things she loves and has never felt the need to justify herself, or her choices, to anyone. As a result, she makes a conscious effort not to judge others before understanding their stories or their pasts. She genuinely enjoys the company of others and is a great listener.

ROLE-PLAY SAMPLE:
The timer on her phone sounded, the soft chimes calling her attention away from the piles of still-unpacked boxes that surrounded her.

Reaching over, she silenced it, then brushed her hands on her pants. It never ceased to amaze her how quickly dust got into everything, even in packed boxes. She took in the scene around her and wondered - not for the first time - why she’d chosen to move half-way across the country.

It had been an escape, yes, but it was also an adventure. She’d spent her whole life living in the place she’d grown up. A place of childhood memories, and love, and school and relationships. The love of her life - and okay, so that hadn’t quite turned out to be true, but live and learn, right? - still there and in part that was kind of why she’d moved here. But mostly?

A fresh start never hurt anyone.

“Okay, Sam,” she murmured to herself, surveying the damage. “What do you think?" The timer had been to set a limit on how much time she spent driving herself crazy unpacking. She worked well with deadlines. The kitchen was mostly unpacked - although she still had the boxes and bubble-wrap for miles - and so was the bedroom and bathroom. That just left the living spaces.

Her fingers drummed silently on the carpet, before she shook her head. “Nope, not tonight.” There was always tomorrow.

Decision made, she stood, leaving what remained in the boxes where they were and padded barefoot into the kitchen in search of something to eat that wasn’t the back-up, emergency frozen dinner.

After that?

Her to-do list wasn't going anywhere.

At least she wouldn't get bored.

Character Race

Like many before, you have inherited a tradition. One born from legends of great warriors who possess extraordinary physical prowess and unbelievable courage in the face of great Evil. Warriors who are known as Guardians. More than human, but not a true magical race, Guardians are individuals who have been imbued with a mystical destiny and legacy by forces greater than any mundane can imagine. It is said that where Evil threatens to fester, a Guardian will be Awakened to dwindle the swell of their numbers.

While there are numerous types of Guardians, all are destined to be the protector of a mystical artifact that carries with it important necessities to the Grand Design. The artifact can be nothing more than a tool that aides the Guardian in their war against Evil, or it can be a special item that grants the Guardian extra mystical powers. Years ago, you were Awakened as a Guardian of the Scythe. Guardians of the Scythe are chosen by The Powers That Be and given a special weapon called the Scythe, which imbues the Awakened Guardian with the strength and skill needed to vanquish vampires.


Inherent Abilities

In terms of physicality, your standing as a Guardian grants you a resistance to magic. Although, this immunity is limited in its proficiency in regards to a Guardian of the Scythe. You are immune to the mental powers of all LOWER LEVEL beings. This immunity is limited to mental powers such as telepathy, mind projection or hypnosis, among others. However, the mental abilities of upper level beings are potent enough to breach this magical resistance. Upper level mental powers will work against you within the confines of their defined limitations.

More poignantly, you have been granted incredible strength with the capability to lift up to 400 pounds with great ease. When employed at full capacity, you can lift twice as much before straining from the weight. This means you will max out at lifting 800 pounds. Luckily, your body is also extremely durable and provides protection from physical abuse. Due to this you hardly endure any physical pain or gain bruises from physical attacks. Careful though, as this durability doesn't prevent wounds from weapons of any kind and your skin can be pierced by the sharpest of weapons and most brutal of blows received from others with superhuman capabilities.

Other physical enhancements include the ability to move at greater speeds than a normal mortal that matches the speeds of automobiles and the agility to out maneuver the quickest of foes. Most beneficial, perhaps, is your tendency to heal faster than normal humans. This allows for internal or outer injuries to heal themselves in just a few hours or a few days at the very latest.

Your mental powers also provide you with useful skills. Your Limited Perception allows you to sense the presence of vampires in your immediate vicinity (thread). A more advanced mental power in your arsenal are your psychic dreams. In these dreams you have the potential to communicate with the spirits of former scythe guardians or experience visions of the future.


Individual Powers
While you are responsible for vanquishing the average vampire, your main goal is to hunt down and kill the respective vampire queen or king to eradicate the threat of an entire clan. Scythe guardians often travel the world hunting down vampire queens and kings to quell the swell of vampire kind. Scythe guardians are guided in this task by a Whitelighter, a guardian angel who often prepares a scythe guardian for her dangerous destiny. Your former Whitelighter, Alyson Carter, has disappeared. She went missing a month ago. The Elders have yet to assign a replacement, but you shouldn't worry as one will probably be on their way soon enough.

Due to your years of experience with your powers, you are currently a Level 6. This makes you an Upper Level Guardian.



Financial Status and Occupation

As we said, you are a Guardian of the Scythe! What? You expected something that pays the bills? Okay, okay. I suppose something along the lines as a Freelance Journalist for 415 Magazine has the flexibility to allow you to pursue your destiny.

Flexibility comes with a trade-off though. Namely, low income. Sure, you make enough to keep a roof over your head and food on your plate, but anything more requires saving diligently on your part. This puts you in the lower class.


Residence and Starting Point

Although you maintain a permanent residence in San Francisco (which is currently being sublet), you are temporarily in Istanbul due to your calling. While there, your place of residence is a motel room in the Tempest Inn of Kaz Ida.
